Over the last few weeks, “social distancing” has reached an entirely new level of intensity. With stay-at-home orders to prevent the spread of COVID-19 or coronavirus, most of us are in complete isolation for at least a couple more weeks. This means stoners across America are preparing to spend their favorite holiday, 4/20, alone in their homes.
But 4/20 doesn’t have to be another disappointment with the rest of canceled events. There are quite a few ways you can use technology to make this 4/20 the best yet! A little extra planning ahead is all it takes to get all your buddies together for a virtual 4/20 blowout and celebrate the same way you always do.
Hotbox the Video Chat
Have a good old-fashioned 4/20 party—just on Zoom, FaceTime or Facebook Messenger. Have everyone roll up a joint and light it at the same time so you’re all together in spirit!
Make it extra fun and encourage people to dress up in their favorite marijuana garb or any other fun costume they fancy. Everyone will be thrilled with the excuse to wear something other than their hoodie and sweatpants.
You could also encourage invitees to all purchase the same piece beforehand so when you all come together on 4/20, you’re all hitting the same piece! Our sitewide 4/20 sale goes until the first of May, so you can all get 20% off a fun pipe, like the Piper. See if you can cover all the color options with your group!
Make it a Game Night
Once you've all taken a few tokes together, try out a fun group game like those from Bunch or Houseparty. These apps allow multiple people to play trivia, drawing games, pool and more together. Plus, they all take place on video chat, so you still feel like you’re toking up with your friends.
If your group is the video-gaming type, the new Animal Crossing game for the Switch has become a super popular quarantine pastime. You can even play with up to eight players, making it a great 4/20 activity.
Have a Viewing Party
Netflix Party allows you and your friends to watch the same show together while chatting right in the app, perfect for 4/20 festivities.
Watch a classic stoner movie like Pineapple Express, Friday or Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. To make it even more fun, challenge everyone to take a hit every time a character in the movie does. You could also opt to watch one of the many marijuana documentaries on Netflix with your pals if you want to spend 4/20 learning more about the cannabis industry or the plant itself!
You don’t have to spend 4/20 alone, even under the current, grim circumstances. Today’s technology makes it possible for us to toke it up with our friends face-to-face—but from way more than six feet apart! What a time to be alive.
There’s still time to grab a new smoking device for the big day. Check out our picks for best celebratory 4/20 pieces and accessories.
