It has been a long day and you’ve been looking forward to that first drag from your vape pen. The moment arrives – and your battery doesn’t seem to be working.
Here are a few reasons why your battery may not be operating properly, as well as tips to fix whatever the problem may be.
Is it on?
It may sound supremely obvious – but first – ensure your battery is on. If you have an Ooze battery, press the button five times fast within two seconds, without pausing between clicks. If your battery is on, pressing the button will illuminate a light around the button and power the atomizer. If the battery is off, nothing will happen when the button is pressed.
Do the coils need to be replaced?
The coils in your battery could be bad if they’re not heating up, but there could also be a connection issue. Try cleaning the top of the battery with a cotton swab and isopropyl.
Coils will eventually need to be replaced, but the frequency depends on usage.
Is the battery damaged?
Did you drop your battery on the ground or in water? Unfortunately, it could be permanently damaged if the internal connections have been interfered with. If nothing else is working, it may be time for a new battery.
Typically, a vape battery can last for many years, depending on amount of use and care. Here are some tips to ensure your battery works optimally and consistently provides flavorful vapor:
The amount you clean your pen is dependent on usage, but proper and regular cleaning will prolong the life and efficiency of your battery. A blocked heating element could compromise the performance of your battery, but also possibly render it unsafe.
Heating the chamber prior to cleaning can assist in loosening residue, making it easier to clean.
Use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to clean inside and around the rim of the heating chamber. Make sure to clean the mouthpiece as well. The coil is very sensitive, so make sure not to place too much pressure on this component.
Regularly inspect the head of the battery for small particles, leaked concentrate or thin films touching the battery.
Having a freshly-charged battery waiting for you when you wake up in the morning may sound appealing, but charging for too long can reduce the lifespan of your battery. Research from the Battery University found batteries that charge only up to 85% have a longer lifespan than fully-charged batteries.
After you’ve unboxed your device for the first time, avoid draining its power completely before charging it initially.
Try not to continually drain your vape battery entirely before recharging. Less energy is required to recharge a battery that has a little bit of juice left in it, versus one that is completely empty. Continuously recharging a fully-drained battery can also diminish its lifespan quickly.
Daily use of your battery can sustain optimal performance and avoid slow power loss. When not in use, make sure you turn your battery off.
When installing a cartridge onto your battery, ensure you don’t over-tighten. A cartridge too tightly screwed in could cause connectivity issues. The metal rings needed to conduct electricity could be pressed too deep, making them unable to be in contact with each other. If this does happen, you should be able to gently pry the metal ring up with a paper clip – just be careful not to break that ring off, as it’s connected with only a thin wire.
Store at the Proper Temperature
Batteries should always be stored at room temperature. Temps that are both too high or too low can drastically reduce battery longevity.
Most battery brands offer a warranty, and as long as you follow basic guidelines, the manufacturer should be able to replace your device if need be. Taking care of your battery will ensure that the malfunction you’re experiencing will be covered by the warranty’s terms and conditions.
