Tourism Has Come a Long Way
In recent weeks, an article went viral describing a grower who bought up an old mining town in California. You may have seen it yourself. American Green, Inc., purchased the town of Nipton with plans to invest $2.5 million over the next 18 months to turn this ghost town into a weed-friendly tourist destination. With 120 acres of land that includes a general store, a hotel, and mineral baths, the company hopes to use the existing structures, as well as new ones, to breathe new life into the town and be at the head of what could become a new trend. While you may not be able to visit the new Nipton yet, cannabis tourism is already possible. If you’ve got a little more time left in your summer for one more vacation, why not consider one of these canna-friendly locations?
Colorado
Since legalizing recreational marijuana in 2012, Colorado has become virtually synonymous with cannabis culture. Widely proclaimed to have more dispensaries than Starbucks and McDonalds locations combined, Colorado is the most obvious destination if you’re considering a cannabis-friendly trip. Sites like Kush Tourism and Bud and Breakfast can help you find 420-friendly accommodations, and many listings will even provide vaporizer rigs or edibles, so you don’t have to travel with your gear.
Alaska
If exploring the Great White North sounds like your idea of a good time, check out Alaska, and your good time can become even better. Alaska has already made a name for itself as a beautiful place to vacation, as it is a popular cruise destination, and the many nature reserves and state parks attract hikers and adventurers. In 2014, Alaska passed a measure legalizing recreational marijuana for adults aged 21 and over, so if you’re interested in seeing some of the untouched corners of the United States with a little help from our green friend, look no further than Alaska.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
If you’ve got a passport and an adventurous spirit, then cannabis-friendly vacation options abound, and Amsterdam is one of those beautiful destinations. With nearly as many canals as Venice and a bicycle for every citizen, Amsterdam is a fabulous city for tourism. However, Amsterdam is just as well known for its lax drug policy and the many coffee shops where cannabis can be purchased for consumption. These establishments are easy to find, despite the restrictions on advertising, and often have smoking rooms where you can enjoy your purchases onsite. Between its history, European charm, and 420-friendly attitude, Amsterdam will have you saying “Ja!”
Marijuana tourism is a budding industry, and these are just a few of the locations you can visit to give your vacation something extra. In the United States, Oregon and Washington state are also popular destinations, and Barcelona, Spain has been dubbed the “new Amsterdam.” No matter your location, be sure you’re enjoying your bud responsibly and respecting local laws. As long as your good time doesn’t at the expense of others, your vacation will be one to remember!
