Pick up some hemp wick. By lighting a strand of hemp wick instead of a lighter, you can create a small and manageable flame. Plus, this completely removes butane from the equation. Your lungs will thank you!

*This is an optional but encouraged step. It will be way easier to handle a small dot of fire over the huge flame you'd get from a lighter.

Pack your hand pipe with your favorite bud and hold it on a slight angle. Once the bowl is fully packed, make sure that it's not too packed down and you can still get enough airflow. Now, aim your bowl slightly down, with the mouthpiece aiming up towards your mouth.

Put your mouth on the mouthpiece of your pipe and start inhaling. This is a key step. You need to start the vacuum up before the flame can be directed to a specific spot. Otherwise, it will start to flail around and light the entire bowl on fire.

Light your pipe using the hemp wick. Put the flame at the very bottom rim of the bowl. When you see the flower catch fire, it's crucial to remove the flame as soon as possible. This will ensure that your bud only starts to burn in that corner.
