Your Ooze pen is blinking green and you're not touching a button. That's the device trying to tell you something.
The good news is that a blinking green light on an Ooze pen battery almost always points to one of three things: a dead battery, a connection issue, or in rarer cases, internal damage. This guide breaks down each one and walks you through how to handle it.
What Each Blink Pattern Means
| Blink Pattern |
What It Means |
What to Do |
| 10-15 blinks | Battery is dead | Plug into an Ooze charger |
| 4-5 blinks | Connection issue | Clean contacts, check cartridge fit |
| Blinks after full charge | Short circuit or internal damage |

| Lights up but no vapor | Clogged airway | Run Prep Mode (click button 2x) |
Reason 1: Your Battery is Dead

Blink pattern: 10-15 rapid green flashes
The most common reason for unexpected blinking is a dead battery. When your Ooze pen runs out of charge, it flashes green 10-15 times to let you know before shutting down.
To confirm, plug it into your Ooze charger. If the pen glows gren and the charger light turns red, the battery is dead and charging. Once it's full, the charger light turns green and the pen light turns off. That's your all-clear.
Always charge with an Ooze 510 charger (type-c cables are universal). Using a third-party 510 charger can damage the battery over time and will void your warranty.
One more thing worth knowing, plugging your vape into laptop or car USB isn't ideal. Wall charging gives the battery a more consistent current and helps it last longer over time.
Reason 2: There's a Connection Issue

Blink pattern: 4-5 rapid green flashes
If your battery has a charge but the pen blinks 4-5 times when you try to hit it, you're dealing with a connection issue between the battery and the cartridge. There are a couple of causes.
Residue or buildup on the contacts
Oil leaking from a cart is the most frequent culprit. Even a thin layer of residue on the battery's connection point or the bottom of your cart is enough to break the circuit.
The fix is straightforward: clean both surfaces. A cotton swab dipped in ispropyl alcohol works, but Ooze Resolution Micro Swabs are the easier solution. They're pre-soaked, individidually wrapped (so you can stash a few in your bag), and slim enough to get into the threads without dripping everywhere.
Let both pieces dry completely before screwing the cart back in.
Cartridge fit or coil issues
If cleaning doesn't fix it, the cart itself might be the issue. Pre-filled cartridges are NOT all made equally, and unfortunately have a pretty high fail rate. They occasionally have irregular threading or a slightly deformed coil at the base; both of which can prevent a proper connection even if everything looks fine.
A quick test: try a different cartridge you know has worked with your pen (it can be totally empty; you're not hitting it, just seeing if the connection is made). If that cart fires normally, the problem is with the original one and not the battery.
Most licensed dispensaries will swap out a defective cartridge if you bring it back. It's worth asking. If neither cartridge connects, the issue is more likely on the battery side.
One other thing to check: tightening or loosening the cart slightly sometimes finds the connection sweet spot. Don't overtighten! That can actually make things worse.
If you have a device with a digital screen

Newer Ooze devices with digital displays (like the Novex 2 and Digit) take the guesswork out of this entirely. These devices have a Connection Detection feature shown as a padlock icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Locked with a checkmark: the cartridge is properly connected and you're good to go.
- Unlocked with an X: there's a connection issue that needs attention.
When you screw in a cart on one of these devices, the pulse wave technology will also buzz twice to confirm a solid connection. If it doesn't buzz, check for residue in the chamber and try cleaning before attempting another connection.
Reason 3: The Battery is Damaged
Blink pattern: Blinking continues after charging and cleaning
If you've ruled out a dead battery and connection issues and the pen is still blinking, there may be internal damage. This is the least common scenario, but it does happen. It's usually from a drop, a leak that got into the device, or occasionally a manufacturing detect that made it through shipping.
If the pen seems off right out of the box, don't troubleshoot for too long. That's a warranty situation.
What to Do
Ooze pen-style batteries carry a 5-year warranty. Handheld devices and uniquely-shaped batteries carry a 1-year limited warranty. Before filing a claim, make sure your device is registered. The warranty is not active until the authentication code on your device has been entered on the Ooze website. You'll find the code on the base of your device or on a scratch-off card included in the packaging.
Once registered, you can file a warranty claim directly on oozelife.com. If your device is within 30 days of delivery and was purchased from oozelife.com, Ooze will also waive the standard shipping fee on the replacement.
Why is My Ooze Pen Blinking Green After a Full Charge?
If your pen blinks green right after you finish charging it, that's different from the standard dead battery blink. Blinking after a full charge typically points to a short circuit or internal issue with the battery's circuitry. Meaning the battery is holding a charge, but something is preventing it from functioning correctly.
In this case, cleaning won't help. File a warranty claim. Never attempt to open up your device to tamper with the internal components. This is a major safety hazard and instantly voids your warranty.
Why is My Ooze Pen Lighting Up But Not Hitting?
If the battery lights up fine when you press the button but you're not getting any vapor, the issue is almost always a clogged airway, not the battery itself. Residue from oil builds up in the mouthpiece and airpath over time and eventually blocks airflow enough that you can't pull vapor through, even though the heating element is working.
Clearing it is easier than you'd think. Click the button twice to activate Prep Mode. This is a gentle 1.8V heat cycle that runs for 15 seconds. It gently warms the airway so you can clear it with one big inhale!
How to Maintain Your Ooze Pen Battery
Most blinking-green situations are preventable with a little routine maintenance. Here's what actually matters.

Make it a habit to give the connection point a quick wipe-down with a micro swab when you finish a cartridge. You're already unscrewing it, might as well give it a little TLC. Oil residue is the main cause of connection issues, and it's a lot easier to prevent than to fix after its baked on.
Charge It the Right Way
Use your Ooze charger, plug into a wall outlet, and don't leave it charging overnight indefinitely. Ooze chargers are designed with smart charging; they detect when the battery is full and cut the power to prevent overcharging. A third-party charger doesn't have that protection.
Store It Properly
Keep your pen upright when possible, this prevents oil from leaking down into the battery chamber. Avoid leaving it in a hot car or direct sunlight. Extreme heat degrades lithium-ion batteries faster than regular use does.
Turn It Off When You're Done
Five clicks to power off. It's a small habit that makes a real difference in battery life between charges. Most Ooze batteries (like the Hivo and Twist Slim Pen 2.0) have auto shut-off built in, which kicks in after about 12 minutes of inactivity if you forget.
Register Your Device
Register your Ooze devices as soon as you get it. The warranty doesn't kick in until that authentication code is entered on the Ooze site. It takes two minutes and means you're covered if anything goes sideways.
How to Spot a Fake Ooze Pen

Counterfeit Ooze batteries are a real problem, and they're not just a quality issue. Fake batteries don't go through the same safety standards as genuine Ooze devices and are known to overheat, malfunction, or fail right out of the box. If your pen is behaving strangely and you're not sure you bought from a legitimate source, it's worth verifying.
Ooze does not sell products on eBay, DHGate, AliExpress, or other third-party marketplaces. If you bought from one of those platforms, the device may not be authentic.
Every genuine Ooze device has a unique authentication code. You can verify yours on the Ooze product registration page. If the code doesn't register, reach out to support@oozelife.com.
There's also a suspected counterfeit form on the site if you believe you received a fake. Filling it out helps us track and address fraud.
If Your Ooze Pen is Blinking Green...
- 10-15 blinks: dead battery. Plug in and charge
- 4-5 blinks: connection issue. Clean the contacts, check the cart
- Blinking after full charge: possible short circuit. File a warranty claim
- Lights up but no vapor: clogged airway. Click twice to run Prep Mode
Most of the time, a quick clean or a charge is all it takes. If you've worked through all of the above and something still isn't right, the Ooze customer support team is the next stop. File your warranty claim to get the process started. If your device is registered and under warranty, getting a replacement is a straightforward process.
